How this calculator works

Clock-in time = desired clock-out − required work − unpaid breaks

The calculator subtracts both paid work time and any unpaid break that extends the workday. If the result crosses midnight, it labels the clock-in as the previous day.

Frequently asked questions

What time should I clock in to leave at 5:30 PM?

For 8 paid hours and a 30-minute unpaid break, clock in at 9:00 AM.

Does lunch make me clock in earlier?

An unpaid lunch extends the total span, so you must clock in earlier to keep the same departure time. A paid lunch does not.

Can this calculate an overnight shift?

Yes. When subtraction crosses midnight, the result is identified as the previous day.
